3.4 Every page has a skip navigation link
When a user relies on a keyboard or similar tool it can be very time consuming navigating through every interactive element. This is especially annoying when content such as the header is repeated on every page. By adding a link at the top that skips this content the user no longer has to navigate through the entire header.
WCAG 2.4.1: Bypass Blocks Opens in a new window
Details
- Every page includes a skip navigation link before the header that sends focus to the start of the main content.
Tips
- The link can be visually hidden and become visible on keyboard focus.
- A similar feature can be used to allow a user to quickly bypass other components with a lot of interactive content. An example of this is a photo gallery with thumbnails.
