Users with low vision who rely on zoom, or users with cognitive disorders, use visual cues to quickly locate repeated content on the page. When we have elements like the links in the header that repeat on multiple pages, having them in the same relative order assists with this.

Details

  • Links in the header that are on multiple pages remain in the same order relative to each other.
  • Links can be removed or inserted between the existing ones.

Examples

Correct

The two examples below are correct examples because the links that do occur in both are in the same order. Two links are switched out, however the remaining links are in the same order relative to each other.

Expedia header showing many links including 'Discover'

Expedia header with the same links except 'Event Tickets' instead of 'Discover'

Incorrect

In relation to the previous two headers, this header would be incorrect. In this example the Bundle, Hotels, Flights, and Cars links are in a different order relative to each other.

Expedia header with links in a different order than those above
